Fred runs the toy stand. There are loads of different kinds of dolls. Something troubles him about them. He hears things sometimes...
"They
looked like nice kids. Two girls and a boy. They agreed shyly but their eyes
were fixed on what they wanted. That was obvious.
The
woman began to giggle. “Alright. Why don’t you each pick a toy that you’d like?”
They
did. The girls picked two dolls and the boy the monkey with the drum. Hank
wound it up and the little boy laughed.
It
wasn’t until the family left with their purchases that Hank sniggered. “Them’s
real good toys,” he said. “Real good. One of a kind, you might say.”
He
took his break before Fred did. Hank was a lot more sure of himself than he had
ever been, what with his friendship with Joe.
