THE BLACKSTONE VAMPIRES: I LIVED IT AND WORKED IT.

There are two Victorian madhouses depicted in my novel, The House on Blackstone Moor. I was fortunate enough to work in a hospital in Yorkshire that was, historically, an insane asylum as well as a workhouse.
Work House
I even spoke with a very elderly man who had been in the workhouse as a child. And yes, it was in use that long. Of course in fairly modern times it wasn't quite the dire place it must have been in earlier times.

When I worked there, I was told that the dining room had been the chapel. For those of you who have read the novel, you know I depict chapel going on Sundays. I found the chapel sad really. I could picture the inmates in attendance, praying and wondering perhaps if they'd ever be somewhere else. There was a story with each one, each and every human being that ever passed through a workhouse or insane asylum must have had horror tales to chill any horror writer.

As for the rest of this former workhouse and asylum, there were numerous out buildings all around the grounds; buildings that were over time converted to offices. But in earlier times they were bake houses, cook houses, stables and various workshops.

The Victorians admired practicality and institutions like Marsh as depicted in my novel, were entirely self-sufficient. What the inmates (never called patients) consumed, was farmed on the grounds or grown there.

As for the depiction of the moors in the book, well goodness! I have been to the Bronte Parsonage many times and have walked on the same moors the Brontes walked upon.

Top Withens ruin

I have been obsessed with Top Withens which is reputed to be the inspiration for Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights. It is on a lonely, desolate moor, the most lonely moor I have seen really and I've seen lots.

Moors are unique places, they are beautiful in their own way covered in carpets of purple heather in summer but at other times, on cold damp days, with the howling winds one can easily imagine all sorts of scenarios.

As you can see I have my inspiration all around me!

The novel was truly a work of love on my part. And that's good because The House on Blackstone Moor began The Blackstone Vampires Series.

Each novel in the series sold singly for $2.99.

TESTING A NECROMANTIC SPELL!

Louis' friend was dead. There was only one thing to do. Louis was going to bring him back. A man told him about a certain book. Perfect, Louis thought. He just had to test it first.

"It looked like it would work. There were diagrams and shit, like you see in movies sometimes. The only thing that bothered him was that the print was red; some schmuck’s idea probably to make it scarier or something.

He read it over until he had the basics down.He smiled when he spotted the mouse.

“Bart!” he called. “Come here boy! I got somethin’ for ya! Somethin’ I want you to do.”

Bart sidled in, his green eyes lit up and the mouse was fucked. Two good swipes and it was dead. Louis was delighted.

The time had come. Put up or shut up. Louis closed his eyes and said the incantation only nothing happened.

He was determined to go and ask for his money back when suddenly the mouse stirred. It didn’t have much of a head left. What was there was bloody and mushy but the little fucker stood up anyway.

“Welcome back, little fella!”

FUN WITH THE SIRENS

SIRENS FROM CIRCUS OF HORROR

"Dorinda pulled the other sirens close to her and they giggled and touched one another. And while they did this, they began to change—from women with beautiful hair and fine bodies they changed into men, then into animals and birds. They could do this because they had never been human.

They loved the changing, as they called it. In each form, they explored different ways of pleasuring one another. This transforming and pleasuring lasted for hours and still, the clowns slept.

The clowns woke to seeing the sirens looking as the dancers they knew. “Eat, my love, eat,” they coaxed. This they said as each held a handful of the food they had brought to them. Happy smiled for he no longer cared what he was given. He opened his mouth and ate, savoring the taste.

Each followed his example. Noble and Danny ate and all the while, the dancers sang. There was joy in the songs—joy and promises of a darkness none of the clowns could imagine.

“You will have bounty after bounty—nothing shall be wrong… no act despised, no desire denied,” Dorinda sang.

She led them out afterwards. “We shall take you places you have never dreamed of…”

“This is horrific in the best way! It is extreme ... and disturbing.

"Riveting. Imaginative. Chilling. Fantastical."

"Wonderful horror with a side order of ribs."

"Outstanding story line and strong characters. I felt like I was right there and a part of the sideshow.

"An awesome little creepfest!"

"Never going to the circus again!"

"True horror!"

“Scary from beginning to end! Sit back and read your way into a horror filled tale! Enjoy!”

A Real Shop of Horrors!

It was a small shop on a back street, the sort of shop you'd only find in Europe. It looked alright...
"He helped her to a loveseat. "You will be comfortable here. Now, do permit me before you lose consciousness to tell you about my shop for I am most proud!”

She heard his voice—but it seemed far away as though she were dreaming. He was telling her things: fragments of incredible information—terrifying stuff which was barely understood because she was beyond understanding.

"There are dead infants and children in the puppets…it's amazing what can be done with mummified cadavers. You see. The plaster of Paris is put on last and painted of course…and as for the doors, the studs if you look closely are teeth, well fragments of teeth. I personally like these best. No they are not parchments though they look like they are. Here let me show you…"

She shuddered when it touched her.

"This is made from skin, madam. Yes all sorts of skin. Skin from a variety of people. They make the most amazing ornamental art and things!"

VAMPIRES, SEX LUST AND FEEDING!

They're VAMPIRES! That's how I think vampires behave. I just don't see them as monogamous creatures, however I do have them experience deep feelings for one another. That is, great passionate desire for another. It might be obsession more than 'love.' But whatever you call it, it is interesting! I have no doubt you will agree.

Vampires are wanton, sexual creatures. They love sex as much as they do feeding. If they feel emotion it's probably lust, although I do have vampires sensing something more profound than that and feeling it.

Mainly I have them lusting and feeding all over the place. It's just what they are, what makes them vampires. If you like vampire fiction that features VAMPIRES, take a gamble!

Meeting His Parents

The time came to meet his parents. She was nervous but she never expected a nightmare!

"Three sharp knocks and the door whined open. Oh yeah, Hammer all the way. The mother had a face that could stop a clock and the father looked like an evil Gomez Adams. “Charming!” he said as he leered at me.

He kissed my hand but just before he did, he smiled broadly and I thought I saw what looked like a double-pronged tongue like snakes have.

I shrank back in horror.

The mother grinned. Why did her teeth look so terribly sharp? “Come, do not be afraid.”

My knees buckled but Christopher held me up. He and the father half-dragged me inside. All I could do it seemed was watch my feet as they dragged along the blood, red carpet.

“It’s bleak but we call it home.”

Bleak wasn’t the word. It was Dracula’s Castle and Ed Gein’s kitchen combined. What were all those artifacts I saw, strange-looking things that looked as though they were made out of body parts?"

REGENCY RAKES AND VAMPIRES!

Regency rakes were notorious sex predators. They had great wealth and got whatever they wanted. Sometimes they wanted vampires!

"Lord Fenway, what can I say about him, aside from him being the most notorious rake and womanizer, he was also a loyal member of the Society of Satan Club. Actually they weren’t real devotees of Satan at all. They were naughty aristos who enjoyed the most decadent orgies possible. No orgy was complete without a host of vampires.

They competed with another such club: the Hellfire Club. The difference being was Hellfire Club members did not get their sexual thrill from being fed on by vampires.

As for Fenway, he was quite handsome in his way, mature—silver haired with fine features. He did have the look of a lech about him though which was understandable as he was quite the most outrageous aristocrat I had ever heard of and that’s saying something because so many of these men were absolute satyrs..."

His Forever

After The Vampire Prince of Paris turned her, she will be his forever.

"His touch was magic and if I thought I had the upper hand I realized too that I enjoyed the lovemaking…if it could be called that. Frankly I doubted it.

“You are my wench now, for I will have no other.”

I told him I was grateful. “I will always be yours to obey.”

He knew what that meant. A master’s vampire wench is a sex slave.

“But I want more than that—I want all you can offer.”

I smiled. So he didn’t just wish sex…he wanted love too. Love or lust, whatever I could give him now that I was vampiric.

We fed together that night. Just us in the food store. It was the first time I saw it. Cavernous it was, with bloodied and bitten semi-conscious human beings chained throughout. The coven went to feed too, but only after Gascoyne said they could. As for us, we fed together..."

MEETING THE VAMPIRE PRINCE OF PARIS!

What does it feel like to pass into the blood? Justine goes from death to undeath because love will not let her die.

"I opened my mouth to receive his blood and become what he wished me to be. What it was my destiny to become— a Vampire, a blood-imbibing creature of the night, a cursed being condemned to feed like the Vampire bat. I would call shadows home, along with night. Sun would become my enemy. I had visions of people I neither knew nor recognized. They weren't my memories, of that I was certain.

“The things you see come from my living life for it is my blood you drink.” I tried to understand but it was so difficult. Something struck me. It felt like a hard stinging slap, but I did not cry out. I heard the sound of another slap and the cry of a woman following it. Scuffling accompanied those sounds, as well as a warning: “Leave her alone or I will tear you apart.”

REVENGE AFTER DEATH

Okay, so there's a light after death but remember, anger never dies!

"This was ominous. He couldn't tell where he was or what awaited him. Then it all changed as the shadows moved off and the figures began moving toward him.

These were not shadows but beings, beings like himself. Perhaps these were the guardians he had read about, beings who escorted the dead to the great light and to family that had already passed on.
"I'm here! Please help me show me the way."

He kept calling to them and they did indeed keep coming but then he stopped for he could see what they were. They were in their human form, young women. Hundreds of young women, angry—screaming at him. Shouting to him. Reaching out for him with claw like hands, their eyes fixed—their mouths open screaming his name."

ABOUT THE CLOWNS' ANGER ON OFFER 99 CENTS!

The clowns always acted fast. Slice! Slice! Horrifically abused as youngsters, they can hide their scars with clown make up, but not the damage done to them inside.

The boys didn’t take shit from anyone. What were three more big mouthed louts to them? Al whipped out his razor. The dispute was settled in five bloody minutes. Where the sailors had been nasty fools taunting those they saw as misfits, they soon became blood-drenched corpses, their throats cut so deep, their heads dangled.

“Good thing the boss ain’t here.”

Al agreed. He knew they owed a lot to the clowns.

The clowns took care of everything—they cut them up into manageable parts, then basted them with some Heinz sauce, their favorite.

Harold worshipped his favorite screen star for years. When she died suddenly, he just knew he had to do something! So he went to see a friend who happened to have a friend that could help.

EXCERPT:

"Ah you want to raise her up, that's what you want to do. You need to do necromancy."

"And she'll be alive again; she'll come back from the dead?"

"My brother has this shop…"

He bought himself the necromancer book down on Overa Street and got to work practicing spells. He raised up some dead mice and roaches too. He even raised up a couple of people at the Eternal Rest Funeral home.

He realized he could have gotten into a lot of trouble. But he didn’t care. He was too intent on his purpose.

Okay, she’s been planted for more than six weeks, but she’d still be sort of okay, he reasoned.

He drives out to Forest Lawn Cemetery to dig her up. It’s hard, he’s sweating, and gasping too sometimes because there’s a caretaker but miracle of miracles no one bothers him. He gets her dug up..."

My Gothic Romantic Fiction Would Give Your Granny A Heart Attack!

Well it would, so whatever you do, please don't let her read it or your Aunt Harriet either!

My fiction is dark and frightening. The timeless battle between good and evil is played out graphically in my first novel and a lot more so in the ones that complete the series.
If Satan, demons, and fallen angels appeared in The House on Blackstone Moor and the issue of child abuse was discussed, this isn't light reading. There is the hope of love but it comes at a great cost.
The rest of the series goes a goes a heck of a lot further.

Unholy Testament - The Beginnings and Unholy Testament - Full Circle are accountings of the sins comitted by a demon.  His confessions are graphic, he seeks to put all his evil cards on the table. He claimes to have fallen in love and so wants the object of this twisted 'love' to know all.
The last book in the series is The Fourth Bride of Dracula and it's full of Dracula and his brides as well as bride number 4, who was cursed as child to become his bride. It's Dracula, sinister as hell but damned sexy. A lot goes on in Castle Dracula.
I used to wonder what went on and then it all came to me and I wrote a novel! It's sexy, erotic and very dark. Be warned! Dark is dark and when it's mixed with eroticism, well it's wild!
The dark, intense story lines are brimming with sexual situations and images of evil that will shock some readers.

Just don't let Granny near my fiction, okay?!

OKAY! WHAT IS HORROR?!

I think it's time for a refresher course on what horror is. This is not for reasoning horror fans, readers and film fans (and both). This is for those persons that I think are clueless.

Okay, class! Dictionary definition of 'Horror:'

"an overwhelming and painful feeling caused by something frightfully shocking, terrifying, or revolting; a shuddering fear: to shrink back from a mutilated corpse in horror..."

Horror makes us uncomfortable. That's what it does. It may do it in a variety of ways. Its power is immense. It can be psychological and affect one's thinking. It may make us check the doors at night to see if they are locked (when we know they are)!

It unsettles us.

Horror is supposed to scare us, it may repulse us. If we don't wish these things to happen then we are not horror fans. If we don't like horror, we should stay the hell away from it.

That is so easy to understand a gnat would get it. Sadly, many people don't. Gnats sometimes rule, though.

Basically, monsters make up the stuff that is horror. Zombies, evil clowns, creepy dolls, vampires, ghouls, werewolves...even serial killers.

Remember Freddy Krueger?

Horror puts us in situations that may very well give us nightmares. But it is our choice. If we know we might get scared and 'grossed out' , it is up to us to read a book or see a film or not to! No one is holding a gun to our head. On second thought, maybe that is good. Maybe that would be a good horror story!

Seriously, you and I both know exactly what horror is. I know you know. I particularly know the readers of this blog know. You're not stupid.

What about the others? Those folks that might slow down at car accidents and never miss the news, never turning the channel, no matter what is being shown--how about them? I think a great many of them might think they don't like horror, when I think they might be a little morbid.

Horror has horror in it, OR IT WOULD NOT BE CALLED HORROR. I really don't think that's a mind bender nor do I think a person has to be a rocket scientist to understand the premise.

I happen to love horror, I write and read it and watch it in film. I do not slow down at car accidents, I do not like to watch the horror on the news that I find is too real, and having said that, I don't phone the news channels up and complain. I can change the channel.

Okay, so why am I having a bit of rant? I'm having it because every now and then people piss me off, those that I think can't find their way out of a room. If you don't like horror, stay away from it. If you do like it, enjoy getting scared!

I FIND IT TO BE A GREAT DIVERSION FROM THE REAL HORROR THAT IS ALL AROUND US. THE DROWNED CHILD WASHED UP ON A TURKISH BEACH. JESUS CHRIST, THAT GOT ME!

I think I'll escape later and watch Misery. That's one of my fave films. I like to watch the insanity of the character, Annie Wilkes, she looks to me like someone who would think something was too violent, too horrible, this, while she keeps brutalizing a hostage in her house. Yes, murderous, insane Annie Wilkes, I think she's the poster girl for a great deal of issues. She doesn't like cursing. Remember, poop! She's quite capable of breaking bones and amputating feet however!
