An Immortal Sexual Sadist and Serial Killer?

That's what made me write this book. Erzsebet Bathory, known as The Blood Countess was, indeed, a human monster. That's why the Author's Note is in the front of the book, to serve as a warning! Her crimes were horrific plus she held absolute power in 16th Century Hungary!

I read a number of books about her over the years and, as I write horror, I thought, in the great tradition of the writer: what if?  What if she was immortal and existed in modern times? What would she be doing? That gave me my story. To illustrate my point here are two excerpts:

"Time passed quickly because we were so busy. The films we had started making years ago, we eventually turned back to—only the new ones would soon be called something else. They would come to be called snuff films. Those films were dangerous for they were filled with murder...real savage murder. I still remember each frame, each close-up of a girl succumbing to death. I was worried about seeing too many. I didn’t want the rages to start or my sadistic murderousness to once again rise up. “It is worse,” I said, “than when I lived.” I believed this and so did you..."

"we went about filming masked vampires whipping humans. Lucerne got heavily involved in her acting—and so did I. But then there was an extra ingredient that started quite by accident. Some drainings happened by mistake. Yes, fatal drainings. As we feared any evidence of these crimes coming to light and reversing the legality of vampirism, we knew we had to dispose of the bodies. This, we did..."

End of excerpts.

The term 'serial killer' is modern. The old term would be 'mass murderer.' The only comfort we have is we know these people don't exist forever. But what if they did?!

"As one blood-soaked page follows another we are pulled further and further into the depths of depravity to which Bathory is prepared to sink in order to fulfill her wildest sexual fantasies and murderous lusts..."

Bathory: How the Baths Started

Countess Erzsebet Bathory, was very well educated, despite that, she so longed for an elixir to youth, that she believed blood was the answer! Here is an excerpt about when those infamous, hideous baths began.

“I will rub some blood on your face...!” This she did. “There now! Behold!” she said. I looked into my mirror and saw how much more radiant my skin looked. “Think how you will look if you bathe in it!”

That was how it all started. Those baths of blood! Yes, Anton. It was done! Girls were chained above my bath and sliced open—their bodies soon drained. When the tub was full enough, I’d climb in.

“Luxuriate in the blood of youth. It will go into you and change everything!”

It did! I felt so different. I actually tingled; somehow, all the care and worry of the past left me—making me feel as though I had been turned into a goddess! The baths would have to continue. More girls would be bled and I didn’t care. What difference did it make if there were fewer peasants in the world, I reasoned?

I was the goddess of my own world. Do you know what it is like to have absolute power? To have no one dare to refuse an order. Not that I needed that. I had willing accomplices, perhaps more evil than I! This darkest of periods encouraged every perversion one could think of and blood was at the center or it. Blood and pain and sex.

As always, Darvulia would steer me into greater pleasures. She’d watch me to see if I looked bored and if she thought I did, she’d suggest something else, something even more dark or violent. Sometimes I’d tire of it all. That is, I’d sit and watch from a chair, like the queen I thought I was. The Queen of Blood, Darvulia often called me.

TWO EXCERPTS. I, Bathory, Queen of Blood

The story of Erzsebet Bathory known to all the world as The Blood Countess, is told in her own words. The story spans centuries. A human monster in life, when dead, she is raised up by a vampire who loves her and reverts back time and again to the blood monster she was in life.

These two excerpts are from present day.

from chapter 1:

Danielle arrived early. Living as we did in our own brownstone was so convenient. No nosey neighbors to impinge upon our operation. Whoever came to our home had a right to be there.

She looked beautiful. Her honey-colored hair framed her shoulders. The white peasant dress she wore left nothing to the imagination. One could clearly see her nipples.
You told her how beautiful she looked. When you did that, I knew I’d have to kill her.

Chapter 2
I had gone so long without killing, too. We had hoped, you and me both, that the blood monster might lie forever dormant. This, despite my occasional homicidal rages, the blood lust, the need to kill because the rage-filled jealousy was ingrained within me both in life and undeath. How did we deny that truth?

Still, there are reasons for that. Well, I need some defense, don’t I? My family—the time I came from, a brutal time, an era when there was no regard for the lowly born. My family were absolute rulers who answered to no one, in a savage kingdom. That is the basis of my defense!

Whatever we had wished for never really came to fruition—my changing into something else—though we were hopeful. Sad that, don’t you think? After a few hundred years, you’d think we’d have learned something.

I don’t recall much of the evening. That is so typical of me. When the lunatic bitch rises from the fires of Hell to butcher those she’s jealous of, there is no reasoning or thought, just carnage.

Someone was screaming, that I do recall. I know now it was Lucerne shouting about her lover being dead. At one point, she attacked me. “What have you done?” she cried.  I had no idea what she was talking about. You pulled her off.
“She cannot help it; it is the rage,” you said.

The Blood Monster and Her Memoir

Countess Erzsebet Bathory was a sexual sadist with absolute power. Sadly, despite being well-educated, she believed blood was the elixir of youth.
This excerpt is from the beginning of the novel:

Excerpt:

I, Bathory, Queen of Blood

Chapter 1

New York 2016

Think of it, Anton, the blood monster is going to write her memoirs! Erzsebet Bathory, known to the world for the past four centuries as a bloodthirsty monster is to recall her living life, as well as her undead existence. This, when all I’ve wanted is to forget everything.

I was asked to do it, but it was an easy choice to make, for I would do anything to save you, to bring you back to me!

Anton, my one and only love, you hover close to the great abyss, the pit of darkness from which no vampire returns. Of course, I will do whatever I can to save you the pain and horror of that.

The doctor has just left and I am doing what he recommends. He advised me to write my memoirs. It is to help you ostensibly, so that you might recall things when you waken. I think he also wants me to occupy myself so that I don’t madden further—for I walk a fine line now. You see, I cannot imagine going on without you, Anton, my dearest. We have been together too long.

As for you, my love, he fears your memory will not be intact when you waken. Yes, I am going to be optimistic! He’s implored me to be. In his experience, he said, it is the only way to be. He’s knows for he is a vampire himself!

What a time it was when vampirism was legalized. Now we have clubs and businesses. We can purchase what we need. No one has to die to feed us. This is an uncomfortable thought for me, as it was my insane butchery of one of our own performers that caused you to be so ill. My heart, though it does not beat, is filled with guilt for I know I have caused this sickness in you.

Your skin is ashen, normally cool to the touch; is turning colder. I do not want to think what that may signal, so I will not!

Do you recall the day that preceded this, your deep sleep? This frightening, trance-like state you are in? The modern word is coma. Interesting how our vocabulary adapts itself continually as we endure. We learn as we go, isn’t that right?

That dreadful day began so nicely. You came to me while I showered, your face smiling and showing me how much you wanted me. Your hungry gaze swept over my body. Your touch was magic. I trembled under it, as I always have.

Yes, our kind enjoys sensual pleasure. It is what we exist for, sexual creatures that we are. Sex and feeding—what more is there than that to a vampire? All of our senses are heightened, as is touch. I smiled when I saw that familiar light in your eyes.

I wrapped the towel around me, breathing in its fragrance. It was scented, of course, a luxury I insist on. Patting myself dry, I paused to stare at my nakedness, not displeased with how I looked. But then again, I am ageless. Ageless because of you, my love and your gift of immortality..."

"5out of 5 stars HORRIFIC VAMPS & GREAT STORY!!!
I'm hooked on Carole Gill!! I prefer more details about a Vampires life, knowing they're Satan's creatures, and love that this author portrays them as they are!!! Intense read and that there's real history in her novels, makes it even more interesting!! If you're offended by language, sex, bondage, and savagery, look to the Chic lit on the paranormal!!! Carole Gill is phenomenal!!!!"

“HER BEST YET!” 5 STARS*

“Solid Gothic horror from Gill!”
