Forever Family

Some families are better than others!

"We are your family, they said. "It's better than no family."

The girl wasn't so sure. She didn't recall her origins but that was because she had been a foundling. A beautiful little child of two left on the doorstep of a church. The thing was, no one from the church, not a priest or nun or even the housekeeper from the rectory found her. The others found her. The ones that were caring for her now.

"We love you, we always have."

"From the moment we first saw you, we agreed amongst ourselves never to harm you."

None of them had ever had children. Some of the females longed for babies to care for, but they were not fertile. Actually, it was more complicated than that.

Vampires cannot procreate. And besides, their master said, "babies’ blood is so sweet, who wants to give it up."

"Yuck! Disgusting the newly created female replied. "It doesn't interest me!"

The master smiled at her. He was handsome, she had to admit. That was how she came to be seduced and turned.

“It won’t hurt a bit. Just relax and enjoy the sensuality of it all.”

She let herself go in more ways than one. It was nice. Well, more than nice. It was a life-changing event. She would have to subsist on blood now. That was the yucky part.

Still, there were advantages, it was nice to have aunts and uncles and cousins, all friends. This coven of vampires ranged in age from young children to the elderly. Mainly, the master had received into the fold the lost and unwanted from human society. There were females that had fled violent husbands as well as elderly that had been cared for by their violent children who hated them.

The master had been around for centuries and he still found the ways of humans puzzling. He, for example, as well as most vampires, never harmed animals or humans unless they were in desperate need of a feed.

The forest was full of wildlife they could sup from and really, they reasoned what was the difference between that and hunting?

The most surprising thing about the vampires, the girl found, was they were genuine. They didn’t lie about their feelings. You always knew where you were with a vampire. Vampires don’t talk crap. They don’t string you along or promise the moon like some people and most politicians do. And really, when you think about it, they’re both blood suckers.

The main trade off for immortality was no sunshine, but so what? With the hole in the ozone layer, who cares?

This coven the girl found was socially aware too. They were out most nights helping the homeless.

“Are you cold? Would you like a nice warm place for the night…we have soup…”

They already had an underground complex in the forest. It would become home to many of the lost, the lonely and disadvantaged. And most of all, it was free. No charge to stay. Well just perhaps a bit of what they called life sap. That liquid produced by the human body which sustains humans and vampires, that was always needed.

So remember! Family or domestic problems? Change your life forever! Get real, adjust your expectations. Live forever and stop worrying. Check out a coven near you!

FREE READ! THE HORROR IN THE CRYPT!

Here's a free read for you. The original story was entitled, Bones which is what it's about, if you don't include the terrible secret contained within!
The Abbaye de Evermonde, south of Dijon in France had been the Mother House for an obscure order. The order had vanished without a trace which was rather a mystery. If people tried solving it they eventually gave up. But then something very interesting happened. It happened when workmen discovered the skeleton of a nun while doing some renovations. Clearly, the poor woman had been walled up for some time.

Everyone was unnerved by it, particularly the Monsignor and the Archbishop of Dijon.

They called in an exorcist to bless the nun and to exorcise any evil that might be present. This they did because it was determined the walling up took place in 1634. That was the time of the devil possessions that occurred in Loudon when demons were said to have possessed the nuns there. France would never be the same or the church either.

And so the exorcist, Father Gaultier arrived looking very bookish and quite capable. He was immediately taken down to the crypt.

“It is just behind here…” Monsignor Chaumaude declared. Archbishop Claran nodded. “There is evil here!”

Actually, there was no need to say that for the Exorcist sensed it. There was a smell of rot and something else: the taint of evil. Oh yes, he had smelled it many times.

Both the Monsignor and the Exorcist paused before going into the newly discovered burial chamber. But with a nod from the Archbishop they at last entered the dank, dusty place. There before them, were the skeletal remains of a nun still dressed in her habit and veil.

“She is long dead… poor woman… I will bless her,” The Exorcist said.

As he began, a great wind stirred and a parchment appeared seemingly from nowhere. It folded itself into the shape of a dagger and began to stab at the priest, eventually drawing blood.

At the same moment, something blew up from the skeleton itself. It was as if a fierce stench-filled wind had formed itself into a swirling mass. The power was so great, the Priest grabbed onto the wall in order to steady himself. The Monsignor appeared to be shaking. He said nothing but pointed at the parchment which now lay on the floor. Father Gaultier glanced at it and then at the Archbishop.

At last, he picked it up. “Why, it is written in blood!’ he cried.

And so it was. “It is a confession… and it is from the Mother Superior!”

The writing was strange; it looked as though a fevered hand had accomplished the task.

“I Jeanette du Tribon, confess on this day I have cavorted with demons… and Satan himself. There is no sacrilege I have not taken part in. Blood rituals and cannibalism, including child and infant sacrifices, whatever has been asked of me I have done willingly and have entreated my sisters to do so as well. We perform deviant practices and worship Satan. He rewards us… randy beast that he is! I gladly gave my soul to him and would give everyone’s if I could…!”

There was another document as well; something written in ink and in a steadier hand. It said the nun was possessed by a demon. Further it said:

I, Cardinal, Vincenzo, Papal Representative of the Holy Father in Rome, have taken the decision to wall up one of Satan’s own demons. Through careful examination it has been determined by me, that the body of Sister du Tribon is possessed. The devil will not budge. Any attempt at freeing the poor lady from the possession has failed. Evil must be contained and not permitted to spread!

It also said something in Latin:

Cavete autem membranas maledictum est et non tetigit!

Father Gaultier stopped reading, for he knew what it meant. It was a warning that the parchment containing the confession must not be touched as it was also possessed!

Just before the Exorcist cried out, there was the sound of loud, raucous laughter. Father Gaultier whirled around to find the skeleton gone. In its place was a living woman attired in the ragged habit of the nun!

“Hear you, Priest! I am as you see me, Mother Superior of this Church… and sister to my sisters. I am also mistress to Satan!”

“But!”

“But what, Father?”

The poor Priest could not say anything—it was as though he had lost his powers of speech. In desperation he turned to the Archbishop only to find him grinning in the most evil way. It was as if he was in cahoots with the Mother Superior!

In what seemed scarcely a moment, the two of them along with the Monsignor had torn their clothes off and were committing sin up sin on each other’s naked bodies.

The Exorcist’s revulsion paralyzed him until they stopped what they were doing and began to converge upon him, their faces contorted by evil. If that was horrible, more shocking still was the sudden appearance of church officials and others; a great mass of people, previously unseen.

Father Gaultier could not believe his eyes, for in their midst stood a great winged being. There was no mistaking it was Satan himself. “Yes!” Satan cried. “They walled her up when she only contained one demon—just one of my servants. In disturbing the parchment you have released all of us—demons all; far, too many to count for we are truly Legion!”

***

“And he asked him, what is thy name? And he answered, saying, my name is Legion: for we are many.”

Chapter 3 Circus of Horrors!

Chapter 3

Fred was up early. Old Pa rose usually at dawn, which was really annoying. Then he’d have a good fart festival and coughing fit, after which he’d give his son a grateful toothless grin. Dressing next, which generally went smoothly. Then, if the weather was nice, Fred would help him outside. It was nice so they went out.

Al and Hank were already there. They had a fire going. “Water’s hot,” Al said. “You can have your tea.”

Fred thanked them and brewed a cup for his dad and himself. Then he sat the old man down and took a seat between him and the boys. “Sleep well?”

They did although Fred could see they looked worried. He knew why. They were all concerned about the same thing; where the hell to go next.

“It’s good to cool our heels awhile though...”

Yeah, they all agreed. Well, what else were they going to say?

They didn’t speak for some time, not until the clowns began to emerge. They weren’t wearing their clown makeup, which always startled the hell out of Fred. Al and Hank were less shocked as a rule. Good thing Baby Alice wasn’t up yet because she hated to see them like that, although she’d try not to show it.

It was a funny thing about the clowns but they were always polite—scarier than fuck but polite. Fred greeted them. “Water’s hot.”

They each mumbled something and took their coffee. Happy commented on the sunny morning and Fred answered him, trying carefully not to look repelled by Happy’s skin or his mates’.

It wasn’t easy. Of the three, Happy was the most disfigured. His face displayed a roadmap of his horrendous childhood and young adulthood. It told the story of brutality and unimaginable violence.

Happy’s real name was Arthur Mundt—not that it mattered. The happy clown face he wore gave him his name. But was he happy? Nah. How could he be? He used to say the best he could do was try not to kill people.

Yes, his life had been too hard.

The clowns met in the Storeyville Orphanage in Georgia. The place was infamous for brutality.

The cigarette burns had long since healed as they had on the others, but the scarring from razors and broken bottles was particularly bad. There was copious scar tissue which had turned deep purple. Jagged lines of it covered his face and ears, too. Poor fucker.

What Fred had pieced together about Happy was, he’d been living with hoboes after running away from home. Cops raided the shithole they were all holed up in and he got dumped at the orphanage as he was under twelve.

Noble and Danny had been turned over to the orphanage shortly after being born. No one told them where they came from. Their names were given to them by a doctor who liked to read. That was why they’d been called Noble Dickens and Danny Shakespeare, respectively.

“We all suffered hell,” Happy used to say. “If we weren’t used by the orderlies for sex, we were loaned out to their friends. They drank a lot and when they were pissed, they’d really start in.”

After a few orphans died, things got better, but not for Happy or his pals. They were good friends by then.

Danny was the most cordial, probably because he was the least scarred. “My face might not show it but all the times I been screwed up the ass—that’s what give me my hemorrhoids.”

Sad, all of them—Noble had it better. If it hadn’t been for the scarring on his jaw and throat, he’d have felt okay about not covering his face up with clown makeup.

“Anyone want eggs?”

The eggs were Fred’s surprise. He smiled when they reacted with enthusiasm. “Got them yesterday.”

They decided to wait for Baby Alice, but before she came out, the clowns had swallowed their coffee and applied their makeup. They liked her enough not to upset her. They surely didn’t feel that way about everyone though.

Fred got the eggs ready. He was already frying them when Alice emerged. “Aw, Fred! You got eggs, ain’t that nice!”

“You guys deserve it. I have rolls, too.”

It was like heaven for them, what a treat. They had some money now; that is, Fred did and he was feeling generous.

He enjoyed serving them, and when Happy thanked him and really looked as though he meant it, Fred was delighted.

“We have to make plans later. I mean we can stay here a bit longer…but we’ll have to hit the road some time.”

They knew they would but where would they go? This had been the topic of conversation for a while now. Even in that last place they’d stopped at.

“Any ideas?” Baby Alice asked as she ate. Her table manners were impeccable, considering she loved food so much.

Florida had been mentioned and as they were already in Alabama, it wouldn’t be out of the question to head that way. Still, Fred wasn’t sure. He wanted everyone’s opinion.

There was a lot of shrugging and sighing. No one really knew what to say. Al finally said one place was as good as another.

Everyone agreed. But that still didn’t edge them closer to an actual decision. Of course, that really lay with Fred. He glanced over at Old Pa, who seemed a bit out of it today, more than usual. Now he was kind of smiling to himself.

“What’s funny, Dad?” Fred asked this in the nicest possible way.
The old man winked. “I been thinking about some old jokes I remember. Serves to make my whole day bright.”

When Fred asked if he could tell them any, Old Pa’s smiled faded. “No, they just cleared out of me head now, they did. If they come back, I’ll tell ya!”

Okay…had to be okay; there was no other way. Just then, Al and Hank started to argue. The boys got along pretty well as a rule. This was unusual. They fought over a woman, which was funny because Hank just wasn’t interested in dames. Fred didn’t know much else, not that it was his business.

He did think Al and Alice liked one another and that was why she was staring at him now. Since she was, he was denying anything had happened. But Hank shook his head. “You lie! I seen you both—her with her legs spread and you pumping her as hard as shit! I seen your butt cheeks wiggle, you were using such force!”

They both stood to fight. Fred told them to stop it. They agreed. “Look, that’s past history, fellas, right?”

It was true. Al agreed so much he was already giving Baby Alice the come on. Fred wasn’t surprised when they went for a walk and didn’t return for an hour. And when they did, they were both red in the face.

Baby Alice was giggling something fierce but so was Al. Maybe, Fred thought, something could come of it. If only Baby Alice could lose some of that lard, it would be easier for Al when he was in the clinches.

Hank looked over and rolled his eyes a few times at Fred but it was funny more than anything. Even Al chuckled.

“We have to know when we’re leaving, right, Boss?” Noble wanted to know and so did Danny. Happy had fallen asleep.

“I’ll tell you by dinner time, how’s that? Got us some burgers.”

“What kinda meat?” Noble teased

“Not human, you pain in the ass,” Fred said. “Fucking cannibal."
